Going from holding the walking-stick like an unopened umbrella, to its intended purpose, the rabbit proceeded with a convincing fake limp. The chef turned around toward the sound of the tapping of the walking stick, as the rabbit verified that the ferret was the only one around. "Misty, right?" the ferret asked. Misty nodded. "So, what happened to you?" the ferret continued. "Oliver was annoyed by the fact I told him, just as dinner was being served, I could restore the orb's connection to Stan." "I thought rabbits were shot once they have a limp." Misty, using a touch of humor, "Actually, horses get shot. Rabbits become dinner." "Were you able to reestablish the connection?" the ferret continued, not looking in Misty's direction. "I understand you are quite handy with a knife, and I don't mean for preparing meals either," Misty said in a deadly serious tone. The chef looked in Misty's direction, "I am." "We have company coming over, and I don't mean the type you set out a welcome mat for. A chipmunk has the control bracelet and Stan under her spell. The other unicorn is with them." "And why are you telling me this?" "Before I went back to work on the orb, the ogre ordered all of his men to go after the unicorn and her friends... in the wrong direction. Now if you want to inform the ogre that he goofed, I'll be sure to remember to lay flowers on your grave." "Well then, what's your plan?" "We take care of them ourselves." Misty saw the glimmer of doubt in the ferret's eyes. "Think about it. Take out the chipmunk with the control bracelet first and we have a dragon on our side, and the closer the unicorn is to the ogre, the less she becomes a threat to us. We then bring the bracelet to the ogre, gift wrapped; and the female unicorn. Oliver would then have the power to crush the ferret kingdom and we get appointed to the royal court." The ferret quickly selected a knife, and with pinpoint precision, threw it in Misty's direction, as she dived for the floor. The knife stuck into the wall, a full foot away from where Misty was standing. "If you can't handle a knife, how do you expect to take on these invaders?" Misty recomposed herself, picked up her walking-stick and retrieved the knife from the wall. "I could bring some rope to tie the unicorn." Concerned about Misty's apparent lack of skill, especially for someone with such big ideas, the ferret told the rabbit there was some rope in the back room. The ferret selected his weapon of choice and straped on a backup. He then handed Misty a sheaf for the knife she was holding. "Let's go." Misty grabbed a length of rope in the back storage-room on their way out. At the inside of the service gates, the ferret's ears did confirm someone was coming as Misty said. Quietly to Misty, "You hide there by the gates and wait on my go. I'll be over here and when the invaders are in position I'll make my move and you cover my back. Clear?" "Got it." Misty and the ferret got into position as they awaited the travelers arrival. |
