"I need to know something," Rebecca started to say. "Are you the dragon who killed my husband, Sir Alex?" Without expressing emotion, though Rebecca and Jeanette could sense he was holding back, Stan paused then answered. "Yes." Hearing the dragon confirm what she and her mother already believed, Jeanette put her paw on the handle of her sword, but did not reveal her intent. Rebecca, unchanged in her expressions and yet more solemn, continued. "Were you under the control of the ogre at that time." Once again, without divulging emotion, Stan answered. "Yes." Rebecca took a deep breath, glanced at the ground then looked up. "Do you know why the ogre had my husband killed?" This time with a bit more expression, indicating he has nothing to hide, Stan simply said. "I don't know." Having complete faith in the truth, Rebecca quietly motioned to her daughter to follow her and the two of them walked over to Queen Olivia. "He has to tell you the truth, but not reveal his emotions? I don't understand." Jeanette said. "The dragon is compelled to do what the holder of the bracelet tells him to do, which as you already said means he has to tell his master, whomever that person is at that time, the truth; including the truth about what he feels, but is not obligated to express them even when he verbally says what he feels. I can only control his mind, not his heart. Stan remembers every thing he did, and from his apparent attempt at suppressing his emotions, it is most likely he is sorrowful of the things he did beyond his will." "What are you doing to do next?" Olivia asked. "I need to know what he might do once freed from the control of the jewel." The mother chipmunk replied. "You have demonstrated he is compelled to tell the truth," Olivia said with concern. "Yet can you be sure he won't turn on you, or change his mind once he is free?" "If the ogre asked Stan what he would do once freed, Stan would tell the ogre the truth, even to his own detrainment. If Stan tells us he will help us capture the ogre, he will. Of course we won't know what he'll do till we ask." "I don't know about this, Rebecca," Olivia said. "Even with him telling you the truth now; I don't trust him in the future once he is free." "Just say the word your Majesty and I won't sent him free." Rebecca respectfully said. "Don't release him. Not yet." |
