Though Pence is the first one who asks what the others are pondering, "Why does the dragon not simply fly away? It knows it is severely slowed down on the ground. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear it wants us to follow him." Jeanette Isabelle smiled, "Perhaps Pence, the dragon is resisting the gems as strongly as your mistress does with her bracelet?" The little dragon beamed proudly at Jeanette's remark and nodded. "She’s a powerful sorceress!" Then looked at the little skunkette and sighed, "Even though she is not her usual self now." Florence looked at the small skunk girl, then to Pence. "Are you sure she can cast the spells she's proposed to cast?" Florence asked. The little dragon grinned and nodded, "She can and she will. The purple bracelet actually did her good, despite placing her into 'laa-laa' land every now and then, it is no longer suppressing her magic or stealing it from her." Jeanette interrupted, "Stealing?" "Yes, stealing," the little dragon growls angrily. "Someone drained away her magic. How exactly we do not know. But the draining was obvious." Jeanette looked doubtfully at Kamida. "Will she be able to cast the spells when we need it? I truly hate the idea of her going into 'laa-laa' land when we really need her." Almost as if to prove Jeanette's point a purple butterfly appeared in front of Kamida. It immediately moved toward the girl. There was a copper coloured flash, then the butterfly burst into a purple cloud of shattered crystal that dissolved before they hit the ground. Pence withdrew his tail and grinned at Jeanette, "I will make sure she will not be distracted by those flying pests." "You know," Pence pondered, "I think we should be grateful to whomever gave her that bracelet. Kamida can cast her spells again, and the draining has stopped. I think the giant is not going to be happy with that ferret." Kamida's soft voice sounded behind Pence, "I've never fought against a dragon, let alone one this big." Pence grinned at Kamida. "Don't worry mistress, we will beat him! And then I will write a ballad on how we defeated the nasty critter." Kamida giggled a little. "Lets hope he tries to fly away when in range of my anvil fall spell. That would be a surprise for him." Kamida made a whistling noise, then the sound of something crashing, hard. Florence blinked her eyes curiously. "Anvil fall?" Kamida giggled. "It's a spell against flying critters. It changes their mass into that of lead. No creature is strong enough to carry its own mass in lead, only..." Florence looked concerned. "Only what dear?" Kamida shook her head. "I have never used it against a creature that big. It might fail; or I'll have to use so much power that it will completely drain me. Same thing goes for making Jeanette bigger. The spells might backfire on me." Jeanette stopped and looked at Kamida. "I know it's hard for you, but we really need your spells. Without them we do not have a chance to stop the dragon, or the Ogre for that matter. Can you do it?" Kamida looked a little angry, almost insulted. "Of course I can! I'm a sorceress, not some cheap would be wizard!" Pence nuzzled the little skunkette. "And I will protect you as best as I can if the drain is too much for you." Florence smiled and nodded. "Onward then." |
