As she lays her head on the pillow, she gazes at the now blurry street light outside her window and thinks of her dad and slaying dragons, as she does almost every night. That night she dreamed of her dad and in that dream he actually looked like a fox rather than a chipmunk which didn't surprise Jeanette. She believed her dad truly had the spirit of a fox. In her dream they were in a field which resembled any field on earth and in the background she could see mountains. She didn't recognize this place but felt quite familiar as if she was here a lifetime ago. She wished there was a jeweled butterfly to make clear to her why this place felt so familiar. Then running to her dad, the chipmunk cried out, "Papa! [Dad!] Papa, il a ete douze annees. [Dad, it has been twelve years.]" She runs into his arms and holds on tight as if by doing so she could prevent any harm from coming to him. Jeanette had dreams about her dad before, none of which were alike, none that she remembers that is. A sword materialized in her paws and on this sword she saw writing in Hebrew. Though she didn't know Hebrew, she was able to read it none-the-less. It said, "Made in Heaven." The sword was just her size, it was a strong sword, no too heavy, not to light and it was perfectly balanced. "Cette epee est censee pour regler les prisonniers liberent, pas pour la vengeance. [This sword is meant to set the captives free, not for revenge.]" Her dad said. "Votre mere a epouse un chevalier, pas un assassin de dragon. [Your mother married a knight, not a dragon slayer.]" Jeanette looked up at her dad, confused, "Que signifiez-vous par cela? [What do you mean by that?]" "Demandez l'unicorn. Il sait. [Ask the Unicorn. He knows.]" With that, Jeanette woke up. She sat up, reached over to her night stand and put on her glasses. "That was a weird dream," she thought and then noted she has been putting herself through a lot of stress lately. "That's all right," she continued. "It'll be worth it once I slay that dragon." She took her glasses off and started to lay them on her night stand and as she was doing so she noticed something strange in the corner. Jeanette put her glasses back on, got out of bed to take a look. It was a sword in its sheath. She drew the sword and noticed the Hebrew writing on it. It was the same sword in her dream. The young chipmunk was unable to read what it said but it didn't matter, she remembered from the dream what it said. She then thought about what her dad said in the dream, "Your mother married a knight, not a dragon slayer. Ask the unicorn. He knows." "What was that all about?" she wondered. "A knight is supposed to slay dragons." Of course she knew knights do more than kill dragons, but that is what she has been thinking a lot about recently, "Blood for blood." |
