In one hand she holds a torch giving off a warm glow of a rainbow colored flame. A jeweled butterfly flutters above her head. Quietly the chipette waves her free hand at the unicorn and her companions. When she sees the trio coming toward her direction, she puts a finger to her muzzle as if to say, "Shhh." She motions to the two ferret guards who are fast asleep. The chipette pulls a key out of her pocket and very quietly unlocks the cell door. She motions to them to follow her. Now the four ladies and the butterfly with the jeweled wings in tow continue along the dark corridor until the only source of light around was the rainbow torch. The chipmunk looks behind them to see to see if they are safe. Determining that they are safe the brunette chipmunk aims her torch at an unlit torch on the wall and without even coming near it, the torch on the wall lights up. "I think we are safe for now," she says. "By the way my name is Jeanette. I understand you are going to fight a dragon and rescue your unicorn friend." "How did you know?" asked the unicorn. "Word gets around quickly in these parts," Jeanette answers. "If you are going to fight a dragon then you will need me to come along." "How so?" Kathy asked. Jeanette goes over to another unlet torch on the wall. She aims her torch at the other torch, but instead of the torch simply lighting up like the previous one, a bolt of fire shoots from the chipmunk's torch and sets the torch on the wall ablaze. "Aren't dragons fireproof?" Florence asked. "How will this help?" "The torch will be our only means of protection against the dragon's fiery breath. Besides, it could be used to distract the dragon if only for a half a second." Jeanette notices Kamida's violet eyes, "In a way you remind me of my cousin." "Really? How so?" Kamida asked. "Her name is Violet." "You're the first chipmunk we've seen since we arrived," Florence comments. "Do you live here?" "No, I live outside the barrier in the rainbow fields," Jeanette smiles revealing she has canine teeth. "Are you part canine?" Florence asked, noticing the chipmunk's teeth. "Vulpes, actually. My paternal grandfather is a fox." Florence continued, "Did your family originate from the rainbow fields?" "No, most of my family is from France." "Parlez-vous francais?" Florence asked. "Je parle quelque francais," Jeanette replied. Kathy and Kamida looked at Florence. "I asked her if she spoke French, she said she does...some." Jeanette goes on, "I don't know French as well as I like, but there is a French scholar whom my dad knew. I would love to learn more about our language, history and culture from her."
Jeanette explains, "These memories are not necessarily memories of what actually happened, but rather how that person remembers them. I think I was five in this memory. In it I'm wearing my glasses. I was five when I started wearing glasses. I know where you can find millions of these jeweled butterflies. You can find all sorts of fascinating memories, maybe even some you've lost." |
